mediocre game.

heads hung in shame?
ah, college football season is upon us.
sadly, i am a fan/alumnus of syracuse university. for us the start of college football season only symbolizes the time of year when we dust off the “hey, we’re really a basketball school” argument to all the bastards who went to usc and miami.
sure, recent history has found a few marquis pro-football players who once rocked the orange (mcnabb, harrison, and freeney always represent). unfortunately, in 2007 the most we have to look forward to is the pipe dream of syracuse ditching the big east and bolting to the big ten conference. i predict a scintillating five win season is in the cards for the orange. one piece of credit must go to our athletic department - we sure do have a lot of great teams on our schedule. nothing like watching your alma mater get trounced on national t.v. by the nation’s elite.
un fucking believable.
as for the schools who play actual competitive football - i think wisconsin and florida will be back to doing big things this year. since i want to put a preseason prediction in writing, i’ll still have to say that wisconsin will play usc for the national championship. by the time that game is being played, the syracuse football squad will be busy throwing their own mediocre game at the chicks in harry’s.
did i mention that we’re a really good basketball school?

i never miss an opportunity to show this.

a few other sports related items on my mind:
• guess i was wrong about calling the yankees dead. still, seattle looks tough - they definitely have more pitching than the yankees. i expect that’ll make the difference, but if the yankees make the playoffs? look out.
• my mets look absolutely hapless sometimes. their starting pitching is “just ok” - and that doesn’t really get it done in the playoffs. plus, whats up with every last met getting hurt this year? and where is the hitting with runners on? for a first place team they are not impressing me very much. the next seven games should tell their tale: 4 games against philly and 3 against those rat bastards in atlanta. put the NL east away this week and *maybe* i’ll start to believe.
• i’m all set with hearing about michael vick again. forever.
• the u.s. open is on again, and the following truth occurred to me: people sweat maria sharapova, serena williams, and anna kournikova… but the greatest tennis bunny of all time still has to be gabriella sabatini. bar none. hands down.

clearly you’ve never heard of the “reverse jinx” strategy.
